The Everest Base Camp (EBC) Budget Trek is designed for those who want to book only the mountain portion and arrange the Kathmandu portion themselves, without being bound by a fixed package. We arrange all accommodations in Kathmandu and the mountains for your trip, trekking entry permits, flight tickets, a guide, and a porter for this cheap EBC trek, and food and accommodation in the mountains, but the Kathmandu part is your own.

Some travelers do not stay bound to fixed package trips, so if you are interested in Trekking to Everest Base Camp on a low budget, this Trekking package can be a perfect option.

A Budget EBC Trek is a 12-day trip from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. You will spend two nights in Kathmandu before starting your journey to prepare your trekking gear and other essentials, then fly from either Kathmandu or Manthali to Lukla. Because of airport traffic, most Lukla flights depart from Manthali, so you need to drive around 4-5 hrs early in the morning to catch the flight.

Once you land at Lukla airport, you will stop at a guesthouse for breakfast and get dressed for the day. On the first day of trekking, you will trek for about three hours to the Phakding descent trail.

After spending the first night in Phakding, you will trek to the Everest Base Camp in a week via Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorakshep; on your way up, you will have two days for altitude practice in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche, which is mainly mandatory for acclimatization before reaching the world's highest mountain Base Camp.

You will be back in Lukla after visiting the Base Camp and Kalapatthar in 3 long Trekking days, which you would take eight days on the way up. It will be easier to descend, but the Trekking camps are farther than the ascent to the Base Camp. Then you will fly to Manthali and either drive to Kathmandu or take a direct flight there after spending the last night in Lukla.

Remember These Things Before Planning a Low-Cost EBC Trek

Trekking to Everest Base Camp is not a luxury but a once-in-a-lifetime adventure trip. You have to be well prepared with the gear you need and know about the altitude you are going to, its effects, and other things. These are the things to remember for the low-cost EBC trek.

If you are on our all-inclusive trip to the Everest Base Camp, you can travel freely without taking enormous amounts for your food and drink expenses. But you must take enough Nepalese cash for the trip if you are making this Budget trip to the Base Camp.

What to Expect from Low-Budget EBC Trekking

First, you are choosing a low-budget Trek to Everest Base Camp. You can minimize expenses as you like and trek freely, but managing your Budget and deciding how much cash to take with you might be uneasy. We can help you organize your Budget so you don't have to worry about it.

Besides the Budget, there are difficulties that can affect the trip. You start the journey by flying from either Kathmandu or Ramechhap to Lukla. The mountain's weather is unstable and can change quickly, so the Lukla flights can sometimes be delayed or canceled. So, what can you do if it happens? You have alternative options for this difficulty, such as taking a helicopter flight at an extra cost or trying the following days (if you have time). You can see detailed information here for an alternative option.

Altitude makes it difficult to reach higher elevations after Namche Bazaar. You must be careful of altitude effects and avoid getting AMS. For information about altitude sickness and prevention, click here.

Difficulties are not always present, and trekking to Everest Base Camp is not for everyone. However, many nice things amaze you when you are on a budget.

After a short scenic flight, the landing experience at the Lukla airport is the first thing you feel: wow! Then you start hiking to Phakding, passing through beautifully decorated Sherpa towns. Sherpa culture and warm hospitality make you grateful. Walking through the Sagarmatha National Park (a UNESCO natural heritage site) and seeing wild animals, yaks, vegetation, waterfalls, and river valleys should be a different experience you might never have seen elsewhere or imagined.

The towering, snow-covered mountains of the Khumbu Himalayas are the highlight attractions of the Budget Everest Base Camp Trek. After Namche Bazaar, you can see them at every moment, every day. Buddhist monasteries and other monuments also evoke a sense of peace during this trip.

You do not have to take food and tents with you, so there are plenty of lodges to stay in every camp and many restaurants along the way for lunch stops. You will have a food menu, so you can order from it and do not need to stick to local meals all the time. You can try local courses if you like, but the food items are mostly the same everywhere.

The toilets are primarily squat toilets in the higher regions because of the freeze, but there are western sitting toilets in the lower areas for the first and last few days. Hot showers are available in most places, but you must pay for them. Check about the toilets and showers here:

Who Can Trek to Everest Base Camp and What to Do?

The EBC Trek is not easy, so it can be challenging for most trekkers. It does not mean that it is not doable. Somehow, it would be best if you had mental and physical preparation for everyone. There is no doubt that young people are physically fit compared to older people, but some regular hikers and older adults might have better stamina than first-time young trekkers. Children over 9 and people over 70 with physical fitness and permanent medical conditions can do this Budget Everest Base Camp Trip.

Frequent running, regular hiking, and short Treks in Nepal or other parts of the Himalayas above 3000 m help with the EBC Trek, so we recommend you do these things before this adventure Trek.

In addition to age and training factors, you must be well-prepared to protect yourself from altitude sickness. Most trekkers may experience altitude sickness above 3000m. Slow walking, acclimatization, rest days while going up, drinking plenty of fluids, getting good sleep, and staying warm are key to preventing altitude sickness.

Permits are Required for This Trek

You need two separate trekking permits for the budget EBC trek. Right after crossing the Pasang Lhamu gate at the end of Lukla, you will be issued a rural municipality entry permit, which costs 3000 NPR for all trekkers nationwide.

The second permit is for entry into Sagarmatha National Park, which you can obtain in Monjo or at the Nepal Tourism Board office in Kathmandu. The Sagarmatha National Park entry ticket costs 3000 NPR for all trekkers except those from India. Nepali trekkers also need to pay 100 NPR for this permit.

Things to Bring for Everest Base Camp Budget Trek

It is a cold region, so you must have warm Trekking equipment. Friendly, high-quality equipment greatly helps a successful mountain journey. So, what are the essential gear items for the Budget EBC Trek? Check out the trekking gear for the Everest Base Camp for men and women.

Don't You Have Enough Time For a Long EBC Trek?

It is not mandatory to reach the base camp to see Everest. You can take a short trek to Tengboche and see the world's highest mountain. The Everest Panorama Trek is the fastest Trekking package in the Khumbu Region, showcasing the world's famous mountain.

If you still want to reach Everest Base Camp and visit Kalapathar in a limited time, you can do so in 9 days. A helicopter return trek is one of the best options for you.

You can also explore the Everest region in one day from Kathmandu. A helicopter tour to Everest Base Camp is the best way to explore the Khumbu Region and the Himalayas in luxury. The helicopter lands at several viewpoints from where you can enjoy the great mountains, valleys, and more…

An Everest mountain flight is one of the cheapest ways to see the most famous mountain range. You will not just see the Everest Himalayas; you can see Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Gaurishankar, Jugal Himal, Makalu, Manaslu, and more, including the high Tibetan mountain Sisapangma, which is over 8000 m.
