Situated in the central-northern part of Nepal, the Tsum Valley Trek is among the most beautiful treks in the sacred land of Hindus and Buddhists. The lavish landscapes of Tsum Valley, surrounded by the majestic ranges of Ganesh Himal, Shringi Himal, and Boudha Himal, are soul-enticing and radiate magnificence at every turn. Taking a different route from the usual Manaslu Circuit trail, this trek preserves the natural and historical beauty of Tsum Valley.
Our Manaslu Circuit trek starts with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Arughat. The trail initially heads over the Budhi Gandaki Khola, where we will visit some of the tranquil villages in this region. Trekking along the Budhi Gandaki River, we head to Lapubesi and then to the hot springs at Tatopani. Further ahead, crossing Chisopani, we officially enter the Tsum Valley from Chumling. The Tsum Valley, ravishing in all its glory, presents villages such as Chhokang Paro and Nile, followed by an exploration of Mu Gompa. Trekking ahead, Burgi village and Milarepa Cave await us. This sacred ground is said to be where Saint Milarepa meditated in the region's caves. After its culmination, the Manaslu Circuit and Chhum Valley trek followed the trail we had ascended. Retracing our steps, we head to Chumling, cross Lokpa, and head to Philim. Finally, the Manaslu Circuit trek ends in Arughat, and we then drive to Kathmandu for a pleasant drive. Although massively underrated, the Manaslu Chum Valley Trekking is a trek that blends Nepal's mystical charm and astounding natural grandeur, with flora and fauna, and rejoices in the most pristine trails.

Tsum Valley Trek Itinerary
Arrive in Kathmandu (1,350 m.).
Our representative will be waiting for you at the terminal, where you will be picked up and escorted to the hotel. Once refreshed, you will be taken to our office, where we will have a short introductory program with the trekking team members. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Trek Preparation, Trip Meeting, and Permit Issue Day (Optional, Kathmandu Cultural Heritage Tour)
Today, you have a short meeting with our manager to discuss the trip, and we will arrange your special area Tsum Valley entry permit and your Manaslu Conservation Area (MCA) entry permit. After the short meeting, you are free for whole day, so we suggest doing Kathmandu Cultural Tour visiting four UNESCO World Heritage Sites, when you will be familier with the Nepalese ancient history, culture, tradition, religion, ethnic groups, art, architecture, festivals, and more with recent changes in politics, development, and progress from tour guide. It is an opportunity to learn about Nepal in depth rather than just exploring beautiful nature. Visit heritage sites such as Kathmandu Durbar Square (Hanuman Dhoka Palace), Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath (Open Cremation), and Boudhanath, then return to the hotel to stay overnight after arranging and packing your trekking gear.
Drive from Kathmanduto Machhakhola (870 m) 7-10 Hrs
Today, you drive from Kathmandu to Machhakhola in a public bus and, optionally, can hire a private jeep, which takes 7-9 hours by jeep and 8-10 hours by bus. There are two routes to Machhakhola: one via a direct Gorkha bus and another via Dhadingbesi, which is a few kilometers shorter but requires a bus change at Arughat. If you want more comfortable, quicker travel than the bus, we recommend a private jeep. You will enjoy views of rice fields, valleys, traditional villages, green hills, waterfalls, rivers, and other natural beauty while driving along the hillside road from Kathmandu to Machhakhola and staying overnight in a guesthouse in Machhakhola.
Trek from Machhakhola to Jagat (1,410 m) 6-8 Hrs.
After breakfast in Machhakhola, you start walking through the village, cross a suspension bridge over a small stream, and walk most of the time on the road. However, the road is dusty, and you may meet some motorbikes riding along the way. You will pass a natural hot spring before lunch. After walking for around an hour to an hour and a half from the hot spring (Tatopani), there are two trails. Crossing a suspension bridge over the Budhi Gandaki River follows the original trekking route. You can also take the road, stop for lunch in Syauli, then walk another two hours to Jagat and stay overnight in a guesthouse.
Trek from Jagat to Lokpa (2,240 m) 5-7 Hours
You enter the Manaslu Conservation Area and Tsum Valley Manaslu Special Region from Jagat. After obtaining an entry permit and the Chhum Nubri Rural Municipality permit here in Jagat, you walk for about 3 hours to Philim and another 45 minutes to Chisopani, where you stop for lunch. After lunch, you walk another 2-3 hours to Lokpa on an ascending trail and stay overnight in a guesthouse.
Trek from Lokpa to Chumling (2,386 m) 4-6 Hrs.
Today, you have a gradual ascent for 4-6 hours, depending on your pace, and reach 2,240 meters (7,347 feet). It is a pretty relaxing day with beautiful natural views and a stop for lunch. After lunch, you have plenty of time to visit the sacred Buddhist monasteries of Panago and Gurwa in Chumling. Overnight stay in a guesthouse.
Trek from Chumling to Chhokang Paro (Chhekampar) 3,031 m - 5-6 hrs.
Today will be an easy climb along the bank of the Siyar Khola. Initially, we will cross a suspension bridge, then continue along the bank of the Rainjam to Sarpu Khola, which will lead us to Gho village. Another few hours of climbing along the ridges of Tsum will take us to our destination, Chhokang Paro. Views of the Dhaulagiri and Ganesh Himal ranges are clear from here. Overnight stay at Chhokang Paro.
Trek from Chhokang Paro to the Nile (3,361 m.) 5-6 hrs.
We leave Chhokang Paro and climb to a rope suspension bridge across the Lama Gaon to Rachen Gompa, a Nunnery Gompa. We explore the monastery and move ahead toward our destination. The trail continues towards the Siyar Khola, and then we will cross the famous and well-organized villages of Lar, Phurbe, and Pangdun. The trail crosses a few towns before reaching the Nile. Overnight stay at the Nile.
Trek from the Nile to Mu Gompa (3,700 m.) 3-4 hrs.
Today the trail heads north towards the Tibetan landscapes. Leaving the Nile, we begin the ascent to Chho Syong. Along the way, we cross a micro-hydro power plant and trails decorated with Mani walls. The trail climbs to Mu Gompa, and we will also visit the Dephu Doma Gompa. These monasteries are ancient and associated with Tibetan Buddhism and the Bon Po religion. Overnight stay at Mu Gompa.
Exploration Day in Mu Gompa and visit Monastery and Trek to Nile (3,361 m) 3-4 Hrs.
It is our rest day at Mu-Gompa. Today we will make a short visit to Mu Gompa and do some sightseeing in and around it. Mu Gompa holds great significance in the folklore and culture of the Buddhists in the Tsum Valley. It is situated at a great height in the remote areas of Tsum Valley and boasts excellent views of the surrounding peaks. After exploring Mu Gumba, we trek to the Nile for 3 hours and overnight in a guesthouse there.
Trek from Nile to Chumling (2,386 m) 7-8 Hrs.
Today, you descend from Nile to Chumling, taking 7-8 hours and crossing 18-21 Km and losing altitude 975 meters (3,198 feet). You must be careful when walking the long descending trail and explore the same views you had while ascending towards Mu Gumba Tsum Valley. Overnight in a guesthouse in Chumling.
Trek from Chumling to Philim (1,570 m) 6-7 hrs.
Today’s trail begins along the flat path to Lokpa, which then leads farther into the flatlands to the south, with views of Samba Falls. Continuously descending along the forested landscapes and ridges, we will reach Philim. From Philim, the trail to the base camp of Ganesh Himal also diverts eastbound. Overnight stay at Philim.
Trek from Philim to Machhakhola (870 m) 7-8 Hrs.
After breakfast in the guesthouse in Philim, you start walking downwards for around 15 minutes, cross a suspension bridge, and climb for another 15-20 minutes and join the road. From here, you walk most of the time on the road until Machhakhola, passing Jagat and other small settlements, and stay overnight in a guesthouse in Machhakhola.
Drive from Machhakhola to Kathmandu (1,350 m) 7-9 Hrs.
You can catch the morning bus to Kathmandu from Machhakhola and drive through Gorkha Bazaar, or call a private jeep, which is quicker and takes shorter routes. Once you arrive in Kathmandu, freshen up, rest for a few hours, and join a farewell dinner with Frolic Adventure.
Departure to the international airport for your final flight.
This will be your last day in this beautiful country. After lunch, we will drive you to the international airport for your final departure, bidding you a final goodbye. We will always be at your service if you come to Nepal again soon.
