Potala Palace
Potala Palace was the palace of the 14th Dalai Lama before China invaded it. It is now a museum and a World Heritage site. The mountain was named the palace. Potala. The 5th Dalai Lama constructed this palace in 1645. The palace measures 400 meters east-west and 350 meters north-south with sloping stone walls. The thirteen-storied palace has more than a thousand rooms, ten thousand shrines, and two hundred thousand statues. Three central hills, Chokpori, Pongwari, and Marpori, where the Potala Palace is situated, represent the primary protectors of Tibet.
Jokhang Temple
Jokhang Temple is a Buddhist temple and one of Tibet's world heritage sites. The temple is situated on Barkhor Street. Jokhang Temple is also known as Qoikang Monastery. Tibetan people believe that this temple is the most important and sacred. The temple is made in a mixture of Indian vihara style and Tibetan and Nepalese designs. The temple was founded during the reign of King Songtsen Gampo. According to tradition, the temple was built for two queens: Wencheng of the Chinese dynasty and Bhrikuti of Nepal. The queens are known as Buddhist female deities, Tara.
Norbulingka
Norbulingka is a jeweled park palace west of Lhasa. Built in 1755, it is a World Heritage Site in Tibet. From the 1780s until the 14th Dalai Lama, it was the summer residence of the Dalai Lamas. The palace is considered the most extensive artificial human-made garden in Tibet.
