The Safari Tour in Chitwan is one of Nepal's most popular jungle activities. Chitwan is named after two different words: Chita and Wan. Chita means Leopard, and Wan means forest. It is the heart of the jungle, with many wild animals and birds. Established in 1973, it is Nepal's first national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Thousands of internal and external tourists visit Chitwan National Park annually for Jungle activities. It is one of the best places in Nepal to see wild animals, including one-horned rhinos, elephants, spotted deer, sambar deer, black bears, and many more. On this safari tour, you can also see hundreds of colorful birds.

Activities on the Chitwan Tour

Tharu Village Walk and Sunset

After reaching the lodge, you have a few hours of rest to be fresh, then go for a Tharu village walk. It is close to the resort; then go to the Rapti River bank through the village for the sunset. After the sunset view, you come back to the lodge for dinner.

Tharu Cultural Program

The Tharu cultural program in the program hall is very entertaining. You can learn how the Tharu people in Chitwan live and celebrate festivals. Stick dance, fire dance, and peacock dance are unique. They also present farming life and celebrations, including rice planting, with their dances in the program.

Visit the Elephant Breeding Center and Jungle Walk.

Visiting the elephant breeding center is a highlight of the Chitwan Jungle Safari trip. You can see cute baby elephants in the breeding center. The baby elephants come close to you behind a fence to welcome you into their home. Do not forget to bring fruit because those little elephants expect something from you.

Before reaching the breeding center, you will take a canoe ride on the Budhi Rapti River. You will enjoy this ride and see beautiful birds and crocodiles. After the breeding center, you will take a Jungle walk in the buffer zone. Here, you will see beautiful birds, spotted deer, and rhinos.

Jeep Safari in the National Park

The Elephant Safari was the most popular activity on the two-night, three-day Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour a few years ago. Still, most people ignore this activity because of animal rights. You can do a Jeep Safari inside the national park instead of the elephant safari, but some people are still doing the elephant Safari.

During the Jeep Safari, you will see many wild animals and beautiful birds and visit the crocodile breeding center. There are two different types of crocodiles in Chitwan. The Magar crocodile is small but dangerous, whereas the Ghodiyal is large but harmless. The breeding center is for the Ghodiyal crocodiles. You can see tiny crocodiles and huge ones in this breeding center.

Clothes to Wear for Jungle Activity

Wear long sleeves and dark-colored clothes for the Jungle Safari Tour in Chitwan. Wild animals can see light clothing from afar, so dark clothing is recommended for safety. There are stinging nettles in the forest. The dress's long sleeves protect you from the nettles in the Jungle. You can wear any color for the Tharu village walk and cultural program. Do not forget to take rain gear if you are on tour during the rainy season.
