Chandragiri Hike is a short-distance, one-day hiking destination near Kathmandu Valley, but the walking trail is steep. Walking towards the third-highest hill station from the base of the cable car station is a perfect nature trip for everyone.
On a clear day, Chandragiri Hill offers magnificent views of high, snow-capped mountains such as Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Ganesh Himal, Yangra, Manaslu, Himal Chuli, Langtang Lirung, Sisapangma, Dorje Lakpa, Jugal, Gauri Shankar, and Everest, among others. Not just from the summit of Chandragiri Peak, you can see those Himalayas while walking towards the top with a pristine view of Kathmandu Valley.
You can also see spectacular views of the green hills in well-formed layers all around Kathmandu. The people riding cable cars wave and shout to encourage you to walk on the steep trail. You may encounter some barking deer and monkeys while walking to Chandragiri Hills.
Chandragiri Hill Hike is around a 3-hour walk from the bottom through the dense forest of oak, rhododendron, and other trees and woods with bamboo bushes. You can ride back on a cable car from the top or walk around after you get there. Alternatively, you can trek to Mata Tirtha to make the trip longer through Chandragiri Hills Resort and Deurali, then enter the jungle.
There are many extra things to do on Chandragiri Hill after you reach there from the nature walk. You can do the zipline, free fall, swing ride, wall climbing, horseback riding, and more activities at Chandragiri Peak.
Chandragiri Hill Hike begins from its base near the cable car station after a 45-minute drive from your hotel. The morning is the best time to walk this trail because you will have better visibility and the mountains will be open. The fog may cover the Himalayas later in the afternoon. There are steep stone steps in some places, but they are short, so families with kids can also take this nature walk in Kathmandu.
The Best Times to Hike to Chandragiri Hills
October and November in autumn, and December to February in winter, and March to May in spring are the best times to hike to Chandragiri Hills. November and December offer the brightest views of the Himalayas. However, you can still see a clear view of the Kathmandu Valley from June to December. You can go on a Chandragiri walking trip in the winter. Still, we do not recommend walking in the summer because the months from June to September are very rainy.
The monsoon rain clears the haze, and the autumn months have the brightest days, so you will have the clearest Himalayan views at long distances with perfect visibility. The flowers bloom in spring, and many colorful flowers line the hiking trail to Chandragiri Hills.
Wear light, comfortable hiking gear, and take snacks and water before hiking.
After you depart from the cable car base, you do not see any shops or restaurants before you reach Chandragiri Hills. We suggest bringing snacks and drinks from the bottom before you begin to walk towards Chandragiri. Also, we recommend wearing comfortable hiking trousers, shirts, and well-gripped shoes for the Chandragiri Nature Hike.
